3. Vertical wine tasting Pithari red / white
Discover the Fokiano and Begleri grape varieties – cultivated since ancient times on the island – through a vertical wine tasting.
The ability of a wine to not just survive but evolve over time is a sign of quality and expertise. One of the best ways to gain a complete picture of a wine’s evolution year over year is to sample several vintages in a row. This technique, called “vertical” tasting, descends through time to observe the transformation of the same wine as it ages.
This experience includes:
A close study of our Pithari wines: Compare four vintages made with the ancestral method, where grapes are pressed by foot in our granite press and aged in our clay amphorae. Winemaker Nikos or Konstantinos will lead you through a guided tasting to best understand the aging potential of the Fokiano and Begleri varieties.
Get to know the winemaking methods of ancient Ikarians: Take a close look at the granite press and clay amphorae where the Pithari wines are made.
