Psaronikolas dry white 2001 from Ikaria
Psaronikolas dry white 2001 is a rare aged natural white wine from Ikaria, made from 100% Begleri, one of the island’s most important local white grape varieties. Afianes Wines created this wine with traditional methods, patience and respect for the natural character of the grape. As a result, this bottle offers maturity, depth and a unique expression of time.
A rare aged natural white wine
Most white wines reach the market young. However, Psaronikolas dry white 2001 shows how a carefully made white wine can evolve beautifully over more than two decades. The long bottle ageing gives the wine a complex personality, while the natural acidity of Begleri keeps the wine alive, structured and gastronomic.
Made from 100% Begleri
Begleri gives this wine its bright tension, mineral character and distinctive aromatic profile. In this mature expression, the variety moves beyond fresh fruit and reveals deeper layers. Therefore, Psaronikolas dry white 2001 becomes more than a white wine; it becomes a rare cellar-release bottle for wine lovers who appreciate old vintages and authentic Greek varieties.
Traditional natural vinification
Afianes Wines follows a traditional approach for this wine. First, the grapes are pressed in a traditional stone press. Then, the must continues fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined, without added sulfites. Because of this minimal-intervention process, the wine keeps a raw, expressive and honest character.
Tasting profile and character
In the glass, this wine shows an antique gold color with bronze highlights. On the nose, it can reveal aromas of anama honey, ripe pineapple, tropical fruit, mushrooms and a subtle gunpowder note. On the palate, it feels dry, layered and intense. Moreover, its dynamic acidity balances the mature notes and gives the wine a long, memorable finish.
Food pairing ideas
You can pair Psaronikolas dry white 2001 with dishes that have depth and elegance. For example, it works beautifully with grilled large fish, seafood, shellfish, mushrooms, white meats in lemon sauce and yellow cheeses. In addition, it can accompany rich white sauces and Mediterranean dishes with herbs. Because of its maturity, it also performs beautifully as a slow tasting wine.
Serving recommendation
Serve the wine slightly cool, around 14–16°C, so the aromas can open gradually in the glass. If you serve it too cold, the mature notes may stay closed. Instead, give it a few minutes after pouring and let the wine reveal its layers slowly.
A collectible bottle from Afianes Wines
Only 1,300 bottles were produced, which makes this vintage especially meaningful for collectors and natural wine enthusiasts.
